Tizen Developer Conference

We are in San Francisco today for the Tizen Developer Conference. A relatively new mobile OS, Tizen is being developed as an open source OS for phones, tablets and other devices under the guidance of Samsung and Intel.

Native apps are developed as HTML5 apps, but there are also a number of companies at the event offering tools and services for porting Android and iOS apps to the platform.

It is a bit early to tell, but the conference is doing an excellent job helping us get all the details we look for when deciding if we should develop for a new platform.

Fliq Apps Now Available in Russian on Google Play and Yandex

We have added both a new language, and a started distribution via a new app store this week!

Fliq Notes and Fliq Tasks are now available in Russian, and via the new Yandex Store.

Yandex is a powerhouse in Russia, and has been investing heavily in developing their own Android apps, as well as their new Android app store. Their own apps include Yandex Maps, Search, Mail, Weather, Search, Navigator, Disk and more -- 17 in total.

Yandex.Store was announced this past February with a starting catalog of over 50,000 applications, and the ability to take payments via bank card or via mobile carrier billing.

To get the Yandex.Store application, visit m.store.yandex.com from your Android device.

Once installed, you can search for Fliq Notes and Fliq Tasks in the store application.

Alternatively, the applications can also be downloaded from Google Play.

Fliq Notes 3.0 - Major Update for Android - Cloud Sync and Backup

Following on our recent release of Fliq Tasks, we have a similar large update now for Fliq Notes!

You'll see we're bumping to version 3, and the increase in version number reflects a big shift in the product -- in addition to the way Fliq Notes has always worked on your mobile device, we have added support for cloud sync across multiple devices and cloud backup via our new Fliq subscription accounts.

There are a number of other great UI changes, bug fixes, and features, which are listed below...

Updated UI for Fliq Notes. This is the Light theme. There is also a Dark theme.

New Premium Features (available via premium subscription):

New Features:

  • Help menu option, which displays Quick Start Guide

Other Updates/Fixes/Enhancements:

  • Updated UI for Android 4.x ICS style (from 3.x style)
  • Star category gets a star next to it in category lists
  • Category lists show number of notes in each category
  • Turned off a feature/fixed a bug (depends on your point of view!) where numbers would be hilited as phone numbers
  • Updated task bar (Fliq Notes graphic, more actions available via icons)
  • Updated all alerts with Yes/No buttons to Cancel and a descriptive verb (ie, instead of Yes/No, Cancel/Delete)
  • Updated behavior of back button on tablets. If a note is being displayed, back will clear the note. Hitting back when no note is selected will exit the application.
  • Widget is now smarter about showing a category without any notes -- rather than be blank, it will tell you that the selected category has no notes.
  • Menu items related to The Missing Sync have been removed, although we do still support sync with Mac/PC desktop via our Missing Sync product.
  • UI fixes for Nook Color and Nook HD
  • Now remember the scroll position of a note (view a note, scroll somewhere, when you come back to it later, it will show you the note from that position)

Premium Subscriptions

As it has been, the application remains free to use on your devices.

What is new to the table are our subscription accounts, which add the ability for you to keep a secure backup in the cloud, as well as to keep your notes in sync between as many devices as you like via our new Fliq premium accounts. Mix and match between phone, tablet, etc. We're starting with Android and we are in the process of submitting to the various stores for Nook, Kindle, BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry PlayBook.

You can sign up for an account at fliq.markspace.com, and purchase a 1-year subscription for $9.99 direct from our online store.

How to Get It

Fliq Notes 3.0 is available now in Google Play. It will appear shortly in the Nook AppStore, Amazon AppStore, and BlackBerry World (for PlayBook and new BlackBerry 10 devices).

Tip: Managing Completed Tasks with Fliq Tasks 3.0

With the release of the Android version of Fliq Tasks 3.0, there is a new feature available that comes in handy if you like to both keep track of completed tasks, but not clutter your task list with those same completed items.

Hide Completed Tasks

Fliq Tasks already had a feature under settings where you could "Hide completed tasks".

Turn this option on in settings to hide completed tasks from the task list

Filter by Completed Tasks

As of 3.0, there is now a useful filter available that will show you just your completed tasks, regardless of them being hidden from the other filters.

Combine these two features, and you can have it such that as you mark an item as completed, they will be hidden from your lists, but still available to quickly view via the new "Completed" filter.

Fliq Tasks 3.0 - Major Update for Android - Cloud Backup & Sync

It has been a bit over a year since our last update to the Android version of Fliq Tasks - much longer than we had intended! But the wait is over, and we're excited to have a major new release out today.

There are a number of great UI changes, bug fixes, and features. But you'll see we're bumping to version 3, and the increase in version number reflects a big shift in the product -- we have added support for cloud backups, and cloud sync across multiple devices via our new Fliq subscription accounts.

Further, we have made some very nice improvements related to working with completed tasks - there are now new and better ways that they can be filtered, sorted, and displayed.

The Laundry List of What's New

New Premium Features:

  • Secure cloud backup provided via premium subscription service (sign up at fliq.markspace.com)
  • Secure cloud sync between multiple supported phones, tablets, and other devices provided via premium subscription service (sign up at fliq.markspace.com)

New Features:

  • Help menu option, which displays Quick Start Guide
  • Completion date is now tracked for tasks (helps us sort completed tasks better, and will help us support other new features in future updates)
  • Completed Tasks View: You can now view all of your completed items together. Just like filtering by "Starred", you can now filter the list of tasks by those that have been "Completed".
  • Improved sorting by date: Tasks that have not been completed will sort ahead of completed tasks, and completed tasks will sort by the completion date (prior version sorted completed tasks by due date)
  • Improved display of completed tasks: Completed tasks will show the completion date in list view (prior version showed the due date)
  • New "Add Category" shortcut has been added to the menu of categories when creating a note

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where items without a due date could sometimes display in list view with a due date in 1969
  • Fixed an issue where completed items would display their due date in list view, rather than their completed date
  • Fixed an issue where selecting a search result didn't always take you to the search result
  • Fixed issue where widget did not follow the "hide completed tasks" preference

Premium Subscriptions

As it has been, the application remains free to use on your devices.

What is new to the table are our subscription accounts, which add the ability for you to keep a secure backup in the cloud, as well as to keep your notes in sync between as many devices as you like via our new Fliq premium accounts. Mix and match between phone, tablet, etc.  We're starting with Android, Nook, Kindle and BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry PlayBook.

You can sign up for an account at fliq.markspace.com, and purchase a 1-year subscription for $9.99 direct from our online store.

SMS Log 2.0.1 - Now Sorts by Recent Activity

Earlier this month we released the 2.0 version of SMS Log, adding support for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, as well as the ability to display and save multimedia messages (MMS). Today we have released a minor update which fixes some reported bugs, and adds a very nifty new feature -- the ability to sort the list of contacts based on how recently you have exchanged messages.

List of Changes

  • New feature - Sort contacts display by last message date (contacts messaged recently sort to the top)
  • Now check for and display a useful message for iOS devices that are using encrypted backups (which are not supported)
  • Other minor fixes and enhancements

Try this new sorting option in Preferences!

Sorting by last message date is very handy -- it means the people that you have messaged recently will appear at the top of the contacts list. Give it a try!

Getting the Update

As usual, get this update via the "Check for Updates" feature in the application, or by visiting our downloads page.

Important Note if Upgrading from 2.0 to 2.0.1:

If you are upgrading from 2.0, and have already purchased the premium feature, please sign in again via preferences after updating to this new release. Sorry for this inconvenience, but it is a required due to a change we made in where we securely store the account credentials in the OS X keychain.
