Fliq In App Purchase Now Nook and Kindle Too

Last month we rolled out in-app-purchase for our Android versions of Fliq Notes and Fliq Tasks in the Google Play store.

Following on that, we are now supporting In-App purchase for Fliq apps found in the Amazon (Kindle) and Barnes and Noble (Nook) app stores as well. In app purchase makes it easier than ever to get set up with a subscription to keep your notes and tasks backed up and in sync across all your phones, tablets and e-readers.

Frictionless Subscriptions - In App Purchase Comes to Fliq Apps

Purchasing our premium subscriptions for Fliq Notes and Fliq Tasks has just become much easier.

Starting today with Fliq Tasks, and next week with Fliq Notes, we are rolling out updates that support in-app purchase (IAP) via Google Play Store.

And thanks to Google Play, this now makes more payment options available. In addition to the usual choice of credit card, there are some additional choices - including Google Play gift cards and direct carrier billing (where available).

For those that are using devices that do not support Google Play, or that prefer to purchase direct from us, that continues to be an option at the Mark/Space Online Store.

Google Nexus... Compost bin?

Take a look at the logo on the badge - Nexus!

Google hosted the local Mobile Monday (#MoMoSV) event earlier this week at their Mountain View campus and I couldn't help but notice this juxtaposition of brands... Google and Nexus. But not how the mobile trained mind would think - not as in a Nexus phone, but rather as in the Nexus 100 recycling bin!

Tizen Developer Conference

Brian Warner of the Linux Foundation kicks off the final session
We are in San Francisco today for the Tizen Developer Conference. A relatively new mobile OS, Tizen is being developed as an open source OS for phones, tablets and other devices under the guidance of Samsung and Intel.

Native apps are developed as HTML5 apps, but there are also a number of companies at the event offering tools and services for porting Android and iOS apps to the platform.

It is a bit early to tell, but the conference is doing an excellent job helping us get all the details we look for when deciding if we should develop for a new platform.

Fliq Notes 3.0 - Major Update for Android - Cloud Sync and Backup

Following on our recent release of Fliq Tasks, we have a similar large update now for Fliq Notes!

You'll see we're bumping to version 3, and the increase in version number reflects a big shift in the product -- in addition to the way Fliq Notes has always worked on your mobile device, we have added support for cloud sync across multiple devices and cloud backup via our new Fliq subscription accounts.

There are a number of other great UI changes, bug fixes, and features, which are listed below...

Updated UI for Fliq Notes. This is the Light theme. There is also a Dark theme.

New Premium Features (available via premium subscription):

New Features:

  • Help menu option, which displays Quick Start Guide

Other Updates/Fixes/Enhancements:

  • Updated UI for Android 4.x ICS style (from 3.x style)
  • Star category gets a star next to it in category lists
  • Category lists show number of notes in each category
  • Turned off a feature/fixed a bug (depends on your point of view!) where numbers would be hilited as phone numbers
  • Updated task bar (Fliq Notes graphic, more actions available via icons)
  • Updated all alerts with Yes/No buttons to Cancel and a descriptive verb (ie, instead of Yes/No, Cancel/Delete)
  • Updated behavior of back button on tablets. If a note is being displayed, back will clear the note. Hitting back when no note is selected will exit the application.
  • Widget is now smarter about showing a category without any notes -- rather than be blank, it will tell you that the selected category has no notes.
  • Menu items related to The Missing Sync have been removed, although we do still support sync with Mac/PC desktop via our Missing Sync product.
  • UI fixes for Nook Color and Nook HD
  • Now remember the scroll position of a note (view a note, scroll somewhere, when you come back to it later, it will show you the note from that position)

Premium Subscriptions

As it has been, the application remains free to use on your devices.

What is new to the table are our subscription accounts, which add the ability for you to keep a secure backup in the cloud, as well as to keep your notes in sync between as many devices as you like via our new Fliq premium accounts. Mix and match between phone, tablet, etc. We're starting with Android and we are in the process of submitting to the various stores for Nook, Kindle, BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry PlayBook.

You can sign up for an account at fliq.markspace.com, and purchase a 1-year subscription for $9.99 direct from our online store.

How to Get It

Fliq Notes 3.0 is available now in Google Play. It will appear shortly in the Nook AppStore, Amazon AppStore, and BlackBerry World (for PlayBook and new BlackBerry 10 devices).

Tip: Managing Completed Tasks with Fliq Tasks 3.0

With the release of the Android version of Fliq Tasks 3.0, there is a new feature available that comes in handy if you like to both keep track of completed tasks, but not clutter your task list with those same completed items.

Hide Completed Tasks

Fliq Tasks already had a feature under settings where you could "Hide completed tasks".

Turn this option on in settings to hide completed tasks from the task list

Filter by Completed Tasks

As of 3.0, there is now a useful filter available that will show you just your completed tasks, regardless of them being hidden from the other filters.

Combine these two features, and you can have it such that as you mark an item as completed, they will be hidden from your lists, but still available to quickly view via the new "Completed" filter.

Fliq Tasks 3.0 - Major Update for Android - Cloud Backup & Sync

It has been a bit over a year since our last update to the Android version of Fliq Tasks - much longer than we had intended! But the wait is over, and we're excited to have a major new release out today.

There are a number of great UI changes, bug fixes, and features. But you'll see we're bumping to version 3, and the increase in version number reflects a big shift in the product -- we have added support for cloud backups, and cloud sync across multiple devices via our new Fliq subscription accounts.

Further, we have made some very nice improvements related to working with completed tasks - there are now new and better ways that they can be filtered, sorted, and displayed.

The Laundry List of What's New

New Premium Features:

  • Secure cloud backup provided via premium subscription service (sign up at fliq.markspace.com)
  • Secure cloud sync between multiple supported phones, tablets, and other devices provided via premium subscription service (sign up at fliq.markspace.com)

New Features:

  • Help menu option, which displays Quick Start Guide
  • Completion date is now tracked for tasks (helps us sort completed tasks better, and will help us support other new features in future updates)
  • Completed Tasks View: You can now view all of your completed items together. Just like filtering by "Starred", you can now filter the list of tasks by those that have been "Completed".
  • Improved sorting by date: Tasks that have not been completed will sort ahead of completed tasks, and completed tasks will sort by the completion date (prior version sorted completed tasks by due date)
  • Improved display of completed tasks: Completed tasks will show the completion date in list view (prior version showed the due date)
  • New "Add Category" shortcut has been added to the menu of categories when creating a note

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where items without a due date could sometimes display in list view with a due date in 1969
  • Fixed an issue where completed items would display their due date in list view, rather than their completed date
  • Fixed an issue where selecting a search result didn't always take you to the search result
  • Fixed issue where widget did not follow the "hide completed tasks" preference

Premium Subscriptions

As it has been, the application remains free to use on your devices.

What is new to the table are our subscription accounts, which add the ability for you to keep a secure backup in the cloud, as well as to keep your notes in sync between as many devices as you like via our new Fliq premium accounts. Mix and match between phone, tablet, etc.  We're starting with Android, Nook, Kindle and BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry PlayBook.

You can sign up for an account at fliq.markspace.com, and purchase a 1-year subscription for $9.99 direct from our online store.

Getting the New Version

This new release is available immediately on Google Play for Android phones, tablets, and other devices running Android. If you already have the app installed, you will get a notification in Google Play about the update.

Get it on Google Play

We are working on submitting variants for Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook and BlackBerry 10 and PlayBook, and the app should show up on those markets later this month.

SMS Log 2.0.1 - Now Sorts by Recent Activity

Earlier this month we released the 2.0 version of SMS Log, adding support for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, as well as the ability to display and save multimedia messages (MMS). Today we have released a minor update which fixes some reported bugs, and adds a very nifty new feature -- the ability to sort the list of contacts based on how recently you have exchanged messages.

List of Changes

  • New feature - Sort contacts display by last message date (contacts messaged recently sort to the top)
  • Now check for and display a useful message for iOS devices that are using encrypted backups (which are not supported)
  • Other minor fixes and enhancements

Try this new sorting option in Preferences!

Sorting by last message date is very handy -- it means the people that you have messaged recently will appear at the top of the contacts list. Give it a try!

Getting the Update

As usual, get this update via the "Check for Updates" feature in the application, or by visiting our downloads page.

Important Note if Upgrading from 2.0 to 2.0.1:

If you are upgrading from 2.0, and have already purchased the premium feature, please sign in again via preferences after updating to this new release. Sorry for this inconvenience, but it is a required due to a change we made in where we securely store the account credentials in the OS X keychain.

Call Log 2.0 - Gets Integrated iPhone Support

A major update to Mark/Space Call Log has just been released.

As we promised back in February when we posted the 1.3 update, we have done some major work under the hood.  Similar to the update we did earlier in the month for SMS Log, we now support collecting iPhone call data from inside the app directly (previous versions required Missing Sync for iPhone to get the call data).

The new premium feature:

Other changes include:

  • Now unbundled from our Missing Sync products - purchase by itself with iOS support
  • Switch from using registration codes, to our new premium accounts model
  • New "Delete Duplicates" menu item. This scan the archive and then will only remove 100% exact match duplicates.
  • Performance enhancements related to search, sorting, and displaying large databases
This new release works with our existing Missing Sync products, including Missing Sync for iPhone. However for those that use an iOS device, it is now possible to purchase this product by itself, rather than in the full bundle.

Existing Missing Sync for iPhone Customers:

  • You can continue to use Missing Sync for iPhone with this release, although to get support for direct import of iPhone call data, you will need to unlock the new features via purchase at our store.
  • If you purchased the Mac version of Missing Sync for iPhone on or after September 1, 2012, and would like a complimentary upgrade to this new feature, just contact support to upgrade your account.

Existing Missing Sync for Android, Palm OS, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry Customers:

  • Just download this new version and enjoy the performance improvements, non iOS related enhancements, and bug fixes.
  • If you happen to own an iOS device in addition to the one you had previously purchased Missing Sync for, consider upgrading to a premium account to get the new iOS support.

Those with an iOS device that do not already own Missing Sync for iPhone:

Checking out MMS in the New SMS Log 2.0 Update

Multimedia Messages and Mark/Space SMS Log

If you are like many people, you receive pictures, movies and other files via text message from time to time. Baby pictures. Movies of family and friends. Business Cards.

Viewing Multimedia Messages

New with version 2 of SMS Log is the ability to both display and save off these messages.

When viewing a conversation, you'll now see that messages with a MMS (multimedia message) attachment will have an icon representing the type of attachment, and a "View MMS" button above the message.

Here is a message that has a photo attached...

Viewing and Saving Message Attachments

For any message that has photos, videos, or files attached, just click the "View MMS" button next to the message, and you will be able to view the attachments in the message panel. To save the messages off, use the "Save Attachments" popup and select the individual attachment you would like to save, or you can save all of the attachments at the same time to a folder of your choice.

Getting Mark/Space SMS Log

The Mark/Space SMS Log update can be downloaded from our downloads page, and also comes with The Missing Sync (available for Android and other platforms).

To enable the ability to work with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch multimedia messages, you can purchase this premium feature at our online store.

Enabling iOS Support in the New 2.0 SMS Log

Mark/Space SMS Log is a great way to archive all of your text messages, even across multiple phones!

We have been supporting this across a number of platforms and phones over the years via our Missing Sync product line, including Android and Apple iPhone.

One of the most requested features we added in our 2.0 update to Mark/Space SMS log is support for the latest Apple iOS device running iOS6, including iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Not only have we added support for iOS6, but we have integrated this right into the SMS Log application, and also support older devices running iOS3 on up.

Enabling the new feature

If you are long time Mark/Space customer, one thing you will notice with this upgrade is that we are no longer using registration codes. Starting with this application, all of our premium features will be unlocked by adding them to an account that will be shared across all of the Mark/Space applications.

If it is the first time you run the app, or have not yet signed in to your account, you will get a reminder with some handy links to sign in or learn more:

Just click "sign in" to get a chance to enter your account information, or to create a new account:

If you have not already done so, you can upgrade your account to add SMS Log premium features at our online store.

Doing your first import

Once you have signed in to your account, and have upgraded your account for this new feature,  you can then "Configure iOS devices" from the SMS Log menu, and choose which of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch devices that you would like to import messages from:

Once this is configured, the rest is automatic -- SMS Log will periodically check your backup files for new messages, and bring them into the archive. It is that simple!

Tip: Adding Notes to your Calls

One of the features that Mark/Space Call Log has had from the beginning is the ability to annotate calls you have received with a note.

In our most recent update, calls that have a note attached to them stand out in the list with a note icon:

Look for the Note Icon!
Notes are a great way for you to quickly jot down a summary of a call, which then can be easily searched in the future.

Getting the Update

If you have not already upgraded to the latest version, just pick "Check for Update" from the menu bar, or visit our downloads page.

Mark/Space Call Log is included with our Missing Sync product line, in particular The Missing Sync for iPhone and The Missing Sync for Android.

To see the more traditional list of all calls pick "Select None" from the edit menu, or command-click on the selected contact – the list will then show all calls from all contacts.

Call Log for Mac - 1.3 Update

Following the recent update to SMS Log, we have now posted a similar update to the Mac version of our Call Log application.

  • Updated for Mac OS X, 10.8 (and now requires 10.7 or later. Support for 10.6 has been dropped)
  • Now supports multiple selection -- an often requested feature has been to be able to select multiple contacts, or multiple messages for deletion. This new feature also allows you to "select all" the contacts, to view all messages in a timeline.
  • Dramatically improved performance at startup up with large databases
  • Now remembers selected contact between runs
  • Updated all alerts that offered choice of "Yes/No", which can be confusing, to a choice of "Cancel" and the name of the action, such as "Delete Contact".
What is coming next?
